sending/receiving files over direct cable connection

I've followed the instructions & set up a direct cable
connection between my laptop & PC. Both acknowledge that
the connection is working. But I can't find information
on how to send or receive files from one to the other.
The support.microsoft.com articles all just address the
issue of establishing the connection.

I would have expected that the connection would show up
on "My Computer" & I would simply drag files there.

Help! Please

One possibility is to look for the other computer's shared disks and
folders in My Network Places. Another is to map a network drive, as
explained in Section III of this web page:
