Is the hyperlink to a file with an extension of .PPS? If so, change it to
..PPT and it should open in edit mode. If that doesn't do the trick let us
know and I'm sure someone will have a better idea.

Now that I finally read the subject line (Duh!) my recommendation would be
that you post the question in the Outlook newsgroup, because I don't know
the answer and don't use Outlook, so I'm not sure whether it has some
special handling for links to recognized Office files.
If you do find the answer and explanation, I hope you'll post back here and
let us all know for future reference.
