sending mail

Hi, Claire.

First, which email service are you using? Hotmail does not work the same as
AOL, for example. And my local ISP probably is not like the one where you
live. (We don't even know what part of the world you are in.)

Second, which mail program are you running? We can't tell if you are
running Windows Mail or Outlook or some other mail program, so we're not
sure which buttons might be available for you to push.

Remember, we can't see your computer, so you'll have to tell us EVERYTHING
that we need to know. We want to help you, but we'll need some clues. So
far, we don't even know HOW you are trying to send mail.

I am so glad to see I am not the only one with this outgoing email problem.
To answer some of the questions from RC. My email uses suddenlink.net. I have
had them on this problem several times, they take control of my computer and
still can't find a problem. I can go to the suddenlink.net web site and send
email from it just fine, but it will not work from vista mail. It errors out
for the smtp not being correct. Suddnelink.net can't find any problems they
say to contact Micro Soft. I have searched Microsoft and can't find anything
that relates to this problem. I also tried loading Outlook 2000 but only met
up with a total failure before I found out the Vista does not support 2000,
along with so many other things.

R.C. if you have any ideas I would sure like to hear them. Not being able
to send out emails is not something I can live with. Changing my email over
to something else isn't ok either since I have had this address for many
years. Thanks for your time.

What is the exact error message?

The host 'SMPT.suddenlink.net' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly.
Subject 'test', Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'SMPT.suddenlink.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 11001, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0D

Does it work if you change SMPT to SMTP?

That changes the error to this Subject 'TEST', Account: 'Windows Mail',
Server: 'SMTP.suddenlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '250 SIZE
52428800', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number:
0x800CCC7D

Not sure why you have the SSL option enabled. It is highly
unusual to do so with port 25. Go to Tools, Accounts, select the
suddenlink.net account, Properties, Advanced. Then for the
outgoing mail server uncheck the SSL option.

Are you sending a 52 MB file?

At least it found the email server this time. I'll have to let someone else
take over the rest of your problem.

Your are a Great Expert in my opinion! This worked perfectly. I purchased
this laptop from Dell 6 month ago, they were given months to fix it and
couldn't. Suddenlink tried several times. I was told by them the SSL had to
be checked. Thank you, Thank you, Thank You!!
