Hi,

I need to send a 9MB, MP3 file to someone.
By zipping, it was compressed only by 1%.
Can anybody tell me what to do?

Thanks,
Jasmina

To make the Mp3 file smaller, you have to lower the
bitrate of the mp3, not zip it, it's already compressed.
You can lower the bitrate by using a free program like
cdex. Here's the link to download it:
http://download.com.com/3000-2140-10226370.html
Once you download and install it, use the mp3 to mp3
conversion option and make sure you use a lower bitrate
than the original mp3 is encoded with. BTW, if you're
trying to send an mp3 to someone with Yahoo mail, it can't
be over 3mb in size, or their server won't accept it.

MP3s are already compressed and thus can be no further
compressed by zipping. You can re-encode the file at a
lower bit rate or re-encode it using a different codec
such as WMA or AAC. with WMA you can get the same quality
at half the file size. You can convert MP3s to WMA using
the Plus! MP3 converter LE availble to download for free
as part of the Windows Media bonus pack available at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/bon
uspack.aspx

But to get any smaller a file size, you'll need to drop
the bitrate which will degrade quality. It's up to you to
decide the balance between quality and file size.

You may not be able to send that large of a file via e-mail. The best thing to
do is to transfer it via an Instant Messenger program.
