Sending files

I have WIndows XP and when I try to send a file from
Spreadsheet or Microsoft Works word the recipient is
unable to open the file.

Is there another way I can create the document so someone
without the updated software can open it? And how do I
get into it to create the document?

Both Works and Excel have their own proprietary formats.
However, there are "Viewers" that allow users who don't
own the applications to view files in those formats. For the
Works files, you can save them in a generic format called
Rich Text Format (.Rtf), instead of the .wks or .doc format.
If you are saving in the .Wks format, you can have MS Word
users download a Works to Word converter. It's available
at:

For Excel the viewer is available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-91DA-4110-8595-4A960D3E1C7C&displaylang=en
I would suggest if you send an .XLS file to someone, you
include the link above to allow them to download and view
your document. Otherwise, you can save Excel documents
as a Column Separated Value (CSV) format that is what is
called a "Flat File" or simple text file. With it, users can open
the file with Notepad or Wordpad.
