Sending Email with Vista

I purchased a Sony Laptop with Vista. All the settings for the email program
are exactly the same as Outlook Express, i.e., POP3, SMTP, Ports 110 & 25,
etc. I can receive mail but can not send any. Although the "test" says all is
good, no mail goes out, indicating it can't find the server. Anyone out there
have any other ideas.

I also have the same problem... I am going crazy. i have checked all of my
settings and also have turned off my security as well. I can recieve all of
my emails but can not send any. Can anyone help us??
 
What "test"? AFAIK, only Outlook has a test feature.

Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste into
a reply here.

Hello,
Are you using the "Windows Mail" that came with Vista? If you are,
then you have to log onto your server (using your user name & p/w) to get
your mail to go out. You need to go to your account for the relevant email
server & change the outgoing settings top use " My server requires
authentication" Hit the settings button & click the option to use "The same
settings as my incoming mail" This worked fine for me & I hope it can get
you going.

Can you post the exact error message that is shown. Also I would check with your ISP about the outgoing port 25. It might be different and not port 25. This can be a distinct issue.
And by any chance are you scanning your incoming and outgoing emails with any Anti Virus suite and do you also have any anti spam filtering in place ?
 
if you have either norton or mcafee virus programs installed, it is likely the problem.

download the uninstaller from the respective web site.
download either avg or avast.
run the uninstaller.
install either avg or avast.
you might have to remove and recreate your corrupted accounts.

Make sure that in the properties of your email account on the Server tab
you have checked "Server requires authentification" for the outgoing mail
server.

I am having the same problem - I called Comcast about the problem in Florida
and now that I am in MA I am having the same problem with Windows Mail using
Verizon. They both have said it is Windows Vista that is the problem. But
when I called Microsoft they didn't return my call.
 
Don't let your ISP use "Vista" as a cop-out.
Just tell them you are using Outlook Express (OE) on Windows XP.
Windows Mail account settings are identical to those in OE.

If you want us to try and help you, describe your issue in detail,
complete with verbatim copies of any error messages.

I have read all the posted comments and have followed all the tips but still
cannot send emails from outlook. I can receive just fine. The error message
states "the specified server was found but there was no response from the
server. Please verify the port and SSL information is correct." I have done
this via the POP3 account provider and my ISP, but neither could fix the
problem. The outgoing setting is 25 and the incoming 110. The ISP provider
suggested changing the outgoing to 537 (I think) but that didn't work either.
I didn't have any problems with XP on my old lap-top. Can anyone help?
 
Evidently your email program is Microsoft Outlook, although you did not
identify the version. This is confusing because the newsgroup in which you
posted deals mainly with Vista's Windows Mail program. For Outlook issues,
please post in:

Besides the Outlook version, it would be helpful to identify who your ISP is.
