Sending email to contacts

In MS Outlook, when you click "To:" on an email, you can
select from a list of contacts to send the email to.
This list also contains fax contacts though. For
example, if Bill Smith has a fax number and email address
in his contact info, the list would display like this:

Smith, Bill
Smith, Bill

To make matters worse it doesn't even show which is the
email address. Does anyone know how to make this list
only display email addresses??

The standard behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all
electronic addresses (both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed.
The only way to prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a
different field or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha
character) so that Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.

I have a similar problem. When I click "To" and scroll
down the list, it's in alphabetical order by email
address, not by name. But when I go into my contacts
folder, it's sorted by name. I've searched the Help
section and the Knowledge Base for ways to change the "To"
display, but have had no success.

Post your Outlook version. No version of Outlook that I've ever seen sorts
by the email address. You have two choices:
First, Last or
File as...
Depending on your version and mail support mode of Outlook, you can sort the
Outlook Address Book this way (check for your mode on the second line of the
Help menu > About):

97, 98/2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order

98/2000 Internet Mail Only:
Tools menu > Address Book > View menu > Sort by

Outlook 2002:
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there
