Sending a test message works; sending a message doesn't?

I am trying to set up an email account in Outlook to work with my internet
email provider. The "Test Account Settings..." utility works perfectly
including sending a test message. However, I cannot send regular messages
using that account. I have made it the default account, and also tried
specifying the account to use when creating the message. All help is greatly
appreciated! Nancy

Hi,

What happens when you try sending emails to other recipients?
What exactly is the errors you receive and what would be the version of
Outlook?

Thanks,

Mittu

Hi Mittu,
I'm using MS Outlook 2003 SP1. I can't send to any recipient using Outlook,
and I don't get any error message. The progress screen shows the sending
operation completed with a green check, but the messages are still in my
outbox - italicized and bold. I contacted my ISP and they said it must be a
firewall problem, so I turned off all my firewalls but still have the
problem. I actually have two different email services and neither works, so
I am assuming the problem must lie with Outlook. I turned on logging, and
that confirms that the messages are not sent, but does not say why. Here is
the log:

Oops, I accidentaly hit "post". Here is the log:

2006.06.20 08:47:03 WildBlue: Synch operation started (flags = 00000001)
2006.06.20 08:47:03 WildBlue: UploadItems: 8 messages to send
2006.06.20 08:47:03 WildBlue: UploadItems: couldn't send 8 messages
2006.06.20 08:47:03 WildBlue: Synch operation completed
2006.06.20 08:47:03 IMAP: Synch operation started (flags = 00000001)
2006.06.20 08:47:03 IMAP: UploadItems: 2 messages to send
2006.06.20 08:47:04 IMAP: UploadItems: couldn't send 2 messages
2006.06.20 08:47:04 IMAP: Synch operation completed

Even stranger is the fact that it is attempting to send 8 messages via one
account and 2 via the other account. I actually only have 1 message in my
Outbox. Thanks for your help!! Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Since the error report shows there are two accounts, can you check the
account settings to see if they are configured for the same email address?
When working with Outlook, you need only one account setting to access
emails from one email address. Remove the incorrect one if any.

Also, clear out the email from the Outbox and try re-sending another email
to yourself.

If it fails, better create a new profile in Outlook with one account
settings and try checking if Outlook sends and receives email in the new
profile. This will help to identify the problem.

If it works well, go ahead and configure the second account and test again
with some test emails.

Thanks,

Mittu

Hi Mittu,

The two accounts are for two different email accounts. I'll be happy if I
can get either one to work. :-) I am receiving email via the IMAP account
because that is the email address I use. Since I can't get sending to work
through the IMAP account, their tech support guy suggested I use the POP3
(WildBlue) account for sending only. But, I can't get it to work either. As
you suggested, I tried setting up a new profile for each account with only
that accounts connection info, but I got the same results - still no error
message. Here is the log:

Hi,

Since we have two access for your email address, it's better we stick to
just one type - either POP3 or IMAP.
Now when working with any of these servers, mostly the Outgoing server
information should be related to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
So, on the new profile, go ahead and remove the POP3 access and double check
the settings for the IMAP account. Make sure that the SMTP settings atleast
is related to your ISP ( Please do mention your ISP too).
Once you have it, try sending couple of test emails to yourself.

Thanks,

Mittu

Hi Mittu,

I tried that earlier. I created a new Outlook profile and in it
created only the one POP3 account which is my ISP. Still, the test
message that Outlook will automatically send works, but any messages I
try to send won't go. Still, no errors and "UploadItems: couldn't
send 1 messages" in the log.

Thanks,
Nancy

Hi,

Is there a way you could log-in to the Webmail and try sending emails?
Also, I understand that the emails stay in the Outbox with the error related
to 'Upload Items'.
Is there a way to verify the settings on a different computer or atleast
another email account with the same ISP be configured in Outlook?
This seems more like something related to the settings rather than Outlook.
Try checking the log-in at the following link- www.mail2web.com
If your account has POP3 access, it should let you log-in and then try
sending couple of tests to yourself.

Thanks,

Mittu

Since your Outbox contains fewer messages than Outlook is trying to send,
perhaps you have undeliverable read recipts waiting. Try cleaning them out
and seeing if that changes anything. See this:
