Sending a distribution list

I have been able to export a partial contact list as a .pst. I want to send
this list to others so they can use the same list. Most of my collegues know
even less than I so I am running through the procedure they would use to open
the list in order to tell them what to do.

When I try to import the file I eventually get to a window asking where I
want to import from. The only choices are folders already in Outlook. Does
one need to save the pst directly into the Outlook folder first, and if so,
how is that done?

We are running Outlook 2000 sp-3. Everything I have found on the web
appears to be for other versions because they refer to folders I don't have -
like My Documents\My Outlook\Temp.

There's never a need to export to a PST because data gets lost in the
process. Likewise, there's never a need to import from a PST.

Save the PST to the hard drive, taking care not to overwrite any existing
PST. You can put it in any folder to which your have write permission.
Then start Outlook and click File>Open>Personal Folders File, browse to the
PST, select it, and click OK. You'll now have access to any folders it
contains. The contacts in it can be copied from that PST to the default
Contacts folder, or you can simply enable the folder in the added PST as an
address book and use them directly from there.

So, create that folder if you don't have it or use another. The folder in
which you store the PST is unimportant.

am only presented with folders within Outlook as options.

You said you created a PST by export. That means it's already on the hard
drive. Mail that PST as an attachment to those with whom you want to share
the information. You may need to rename the PST extension to ".psx" or
something to do so. When they receive the file, then save it to their hard
drive, rename the extension back to ".pst" and go from there with the
remainder of the instructions I posted.
