"Send to PPT" from Word overrides fonts and default template

When I send my MS Word 2003 document to MS PPT:

1. The slides created are not based on my default template (a template
I created for all new presentations). Instead, it creates slides based
on the factory default (plain white slides). Any idea how to fix
this?

2. Headings 1, 2, 3, and 4 become Title, Bullet 1, Bullet 2, & Bullet
3, respectively. So far so good. But Bullet 3 (and 4, 5, etc. if I
used additional headings) is in Times New Roman, whereas all the
others are in Arial. This happens despite the font for Heading 4 being
Arial. Arial is what I want as the default font for everything, but I
can't figure out what setting I need to change.

After you send to PPT from Word, apply your template by going to Format |
Slide Design. That should take care of your formatting problems -- assuming
your template was created correctly, of course.

I don't know how to force Send to PPT to just use your template in the first
place, sorry.

Alternatively, save the Word file as an outline and in PPT, use Insert |
Slides | From Outline.

This is how I was doing it, but anything with a heading style of 4 or
above is in Times New Roman. This is true for *any* template (that
uses Arial for it's default font) that I apply. And if I apply a
template that uses Times New Roman as it's default font, bullets with
headings 1 - 3 correctly convert to Time News Roman. This makes me
think it has something to do with my settings in the word document,
but my heading 4 style is clearly set to Arial.

Yeah, hmmmm. I can't repro it here. (Dunno if that makes you feel better or
worse, tho!)

Check your PPT template, though. Open it, then go to View | Master | Slide
Master and make sure the 4th- and 5th-level bulleted text lines are set with
Arial text. In fact, just click in the text then hit Esc to choose the
textbox itself and then Format | Font and choose Arial. I've seen templates
where the last two lines were obviously not formatted -- I guess the author
thought they'd never be used or something. But if it's happening for any
template that uses Arial, well...that's just strange!

If that doesn't shed any light, then in PPT, after applying your template to
the "sent from Word" file, try reapplying the bulleted slide layout. (Format
| Slide Layout, then click the arrow on the bulleted slide layout and choose
"reapply to all slides.") That should override it if it's caused by some
setting in the Word file.
