After installing the last set of Microsoft Update patches for XP SP3 Home
edition, 9 out of ten applications crash after a few minutes and inform me to
send an error report. Anyone know why the apps are crashing and what to do
about it?

thanks

do
about it?

- Specific patches (KB######)?
- List of apps (list 9 of them at least) that crash?
- Exact text of error message they are giving you?
- What AntiVirus software do you use?
- When was the last time you utilized some antispyware software and which
ones did you use?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

What is the CPU and how much RAM does the computer have? Right click on
the My Computer icon on ther Desktop and select Properties to get this
information.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Well I would like to try to help. but i do have a lot of qustions for you to
help me clarify and try to isolate the problems. So if I understand your
issue right you updated patches with Microsoft, which can cause problems.
Now you say "9 out of ten applications are crashing" Define specifically
what you mean by applications. Do you mean programs, and if so which ones?
Did they crash before?
One possibility is to use system restore to roll back your computer in
time to a date before you installed the updates. That may fix things.

As far as error reporting you should have the option of "send error report"
"dont send error report". The information sent in an error report contains
no personally identifiable information. But before you act on this there
should be an option to view the details of the error report. View the
details and hopefully it will provide you details with an error code such as
something like 0000ce... etc. Now take the error codes one by one and type
them exactly as they appear into Google search. The search results should
produce numerous links with perhaphs links to Microsoft and or other sites.
Read these and see if an explanation of what causes the error is provided and
how to fix it. Get back to me with answers to my questions and try these
suggestions and I will see if I can help you more.
Best regards,
Kaja
