I am using outlook xp with the latest and greatest sp and
hotfixes. The problem is that I am receiving my messages
when they come from the mail server. I only get new
messages when I try to compose an email. I do not have
any personal folders so all my mail comes directly from
the mail server. When I send a message it sits in the
outbox until I try to send a message. I have done a
detect/repair on outlook and I have also uninstall and
reinstall but the problem still exist. Has anyone seen
this before.

Make sure Outlook isn't placed in Offline mode (File-> Work Offline).
Otherwise check your Send/Receive settings under Tools-> Options-> tab Mail
Setup. Make sure it is set to send immidiately when connected. If this
doesn't help eiter check press the button Send/Receive for mote options.

Hope this helps!

Your problem is that the notifications (called UDP packets) that your
Exchange server sends to Outlook to tell it of changes in your mailbox are
not reaching Outlook. Have your network administrator check out
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815052 to see if
that might be a problem. Other areas to investigate are firewalls and
routers. If you can't solve the problem at the network level, you can apply
the registry changes in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q305572 to cause
Outlook to poll for changes rather than wait for notifications.
