Ken

I have a computer with WIN2K Pro. The local network
connection shows that over 10 MIL. packets sent and
received after 2 to 3 min. rebooting the computer. I ran a
couple of worm removal tools and a virus scan but can't
find any.
Can anyone help me?

Netstat -an or better yet fport can help you determine what services or applications
are accessing the network or listening. Possibly someone is using your computer as
their personal ftp server - ports 20/21. Running Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer
will warn you about services that you may not want to have running It would also help
installing a personal firewall. Sygate would be a good one to monitor traffic to the
packet level showing destination addresses, ports, and protocols and it would also
warn you when a process or application is trying to access the internet. I would
also run netdiag on your computer. You possibly could have a hardware problem with
your nic. You definitely need to be using a firewall as part of your internet safety
practices.--- Steve
