send and receive errors when outlook left open

If I leave outlook open or minimize it, when I return later, I see error
messages connected with send and receive. If I close outlook, when I open
later new messages arrive properly.
 
The error messages have stopped but now I get a little window that says "0 of
2 tasks successfully completed" also, no e-mails arrive while Outlook is
open,.If I close it down, then reopen it, there are several e-mails (usually)
arriving.
 
Task 'pop.ntlworld.com(port110) - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0D) :
'Unable to find the e-mail server. Please verify the server information in
your account properties.'
Above is the error message I mentioned in my first post.

Can you telnet to port 110 of that server?
 
Hi Brian, I'm afraid I do not know what "telnet to port 110 of that server"
means.How would I do that?

Open a command prompt window and enter

telnet pop.ntlworld.com 110
