Sempron VS. Athlon

I was under the impression tha Semprons were mere Athlon XP's just
overclocked and repackaged. Is this correct or are they totally different
PROCs with different cores ie. Barton etc. Thanks in Advance

The current socket 754 Semprons are castrated Athlon 64s. I'm pretty sure
the socket A Semprons were Athlon XPs.
