Hi,

recently built a new machine. it's up and running fine but it keeps showing
up as an Athlon 1200 Mhz cpu. I have moved the appropriate jumper settings
to allow for greater than 100Mhz FSB.

But the machine still shows up as simply a 1200 Mhz cpu.

I have gone into the bios and it gives me a couple of CPU settings. What
should i be setting it to get the machine to operate at 2800 Mhz?

CPU External Freq. (Mhz): Currently it is set to 200 Mhz
CPU Frequency Multiple settings: Currently set to [Auto]
CPU Frequency Multiple: Currently set to 12.0x
System Performance: Currently set to [Optimal]
CPU Interface: Currently set to [Optimal]
Memory Frequency: Currently set to [By SPD]

Also,

CPU Vcore setting: Currently set to [Auto]
CPU Vcore: Currently set [1.600V]

Would really like to get this up and running properly.

cheers

No Sempron operates at 2800MHz. What motherboard and RAM do you have?
You might need a BIOS update for it to be seen as a Sempron, but that
shouldn't stop a capable motherboard from operating at 166MHz.

You need to change the FSB to 166MHz (DDR333).

Not 2800 MHz, the 2800 is a performance rating only, it's
true operational speed should be around 2000MHz (you didn't
actually tell us which model of Sempron it is so I assume
2000MHz based on the initial "1200 MHz" you reported, that
12X (presumably default) multiplier.
CPU External Freq. (Mhz): Currently it is set to 200 Mhz

Change it to 166MHz "clock rate", or DDR333. The bios
terminology is misleading as when it reports "200MHz" it is
actually DDR200, 100MHz clock rate.
CPU Frequency Multiple settings: Currently set to [Auto]

yes leave it alone.
CPU Frequency Multiple: Currently set to 12.0x
System Performance: Currently set to [Optimal]
CPU Interface: Currently set to [Optimal]
Memory Frequency: Currently set to [By SPD]

You don't mention the memory you have, but typically (if you
have PC2700 or higher) you should set it to 100%, or
synchronous (same as) to the FSB clock rate.
Also,

CPU Vcore setting: Currently set to [Auto]
CPU Vcore: Currently set [1.600V]

That's fine.

Set the FSB to 166/333, and the memory to same speed keeping
in mind what I wrote above about it's PC(nnnn) rating.
