hi

I installed a 250gb Western Digital hd with an ultra ata controller card. I
tried to partition it at the start using xps own software then partition
magic. But it would not partition. This was an extra drive to hold films,
MP3's etc.

So slowly I started to fill it up, when it reached 135gb I started to get a
delayed write failure. (In my computer it reads the total size as 232gb and
freespace is 115gb) I downloaded Q331958_WXP_SP2_ia64_ENU.exe from microsoft
cos I thought that was the cure. This sent my ATI settings all over the
place, which I have now sorted through an ATI update.

My problem now is whenever I try to get int my 250gb drive I get the
semaphore timeout period has expired.

Can anyone PLEASE help

Cheers

Keith

Are your using a Itainum processor or a regular AMD / P4 processor?

The ia64 seems to indicate that this patch is for the Windows XP 64, which
is the Itainum based version of the 64bit XP. The AMD version is still is
beta tests, so now patches will be released.

Thanks

Its an Intel Pentium 4

card. get

The IA 64 patch will do nothing for you then. It is not designed for IA32
versions of Windows XP.

I have service pack 1 installed. In "my computer" the drive reads as 232gb
and says 115gb free space.

if it is any help the pc is an Advent 3507 form pc world (uk)

A Google search on "+Advent +3705" turned up
http://snipurl.com/advent3507 which says this box uses the Intel D845HV
motherboard which uses the Intel 845 chipset. Windows XP should
included embedded driver support for the i845 chipset.

When I did a search at Intel on "D845HV" and eventually go to
http://snipurl.com/D845HV. There is a link there to
http://snipurl.com/D845HV_updates which lists a BIOS update. Have you
checked for a later version of your motherboard's BIOS? The Microsoft
patches, service packs, and updates to provide >128GB support assume
that your BIOS supports it.

I just mention the above as an example. It's up to you to do the search
and find what you believe is the correct BIOS update for your particular
motherboard.
