Self Host and Publish

I am using Windows XP Pro and IIS to host my own web page. I have IIS setup
to go to Dribe I for my web page. I do not "publish" my web page since I work
on the live file. Is this dangerous? Should I "poublish" the site to myself?

All seems to work fine-- except the hit counter, which resets itself to 1
everytime I change any page in the web. Any ideas on how to permanently fix
this (I have searched and read other articles in this Forum, but having to
open the page using IE to fix the hit counter is just another step). And I am
not sure, in my self-hosted situtaion, how opening a page helps. Perhaps one
of ypu great MVP's can enlighten me.

Thanks...

Chris

Thanks for replying, Andrew--

I moved the web page away from inetpub/wwwroot to its own directory on Drive
I--and also changed the Home Directory to I:\GradyGroup in IIS. I currently
open FP to I:\GradyGroup and work with the web pages in it directly.
Therefore I do not "publish" it. I guess I could work with the web in
I:/GradyGroup, then publish it to c:\inetpub/wwwroot (after changing the IIS
Home directory back to c:\inetpub/wwwroot)-- but that seems redundant to me.

What do you (or others) recommend?

You need to open it via http://gradygroup or whatever name you have assign web site under IIS via FP
at all times.
