Self-extracting zip file question

I know this is not XP but don't know who else to ask.

When I use a self- unzipping file sometimes it sets up software without
asking.

I'm wondering is there a file in the zip file that gets run.

I mean, if I extract the files from the compressed file is there a file in
there that WinZip looks for and if present runs?

Thanks

Self-extracting files made by the commercial version of WinZip Self Extractor
can "Optionally run a "setup" or "installation" program, which may be included
by the developer when the files are decompressed":
http://www.winzip.com/xsfxd.htm

It's been a while since I tried this, but IIRC, you could open a WinZip
self-extracting file by using WinZip in the normal way, in addition to
double-clicking on the file. I **guess** that if you do this it will not
automatically run the setup program.
