Hard to believe, but self driving cars are may be a reality for long motorway stretches

It honestly wouldn't surprise me, as aircraft can land themselfs in much the same way - but I don't think I like the idea of a computer taking over something like this!

Not new ... but a new way of doing it ... I agree, I hope the "software" is reliable.

So whos to blame if the OS crashes and then the car crashes.

I'm sure it will be in a log of some kind that the system was running at the time in which case the manufacturer will be to blame?

Insert key, or if they are really with it put your thumb on the dash ...

All this is taking that someone has not kidnapped you in a robbery attempt and cut off your thumb or made you press it on panel, drove the car and crashed it whilst you still in it.
