Selecting text and then hitting backspace does not delete

Hi to all,

I am using Word 2002 and a couple of days ago Word started exhibiting an
annoying behaviour which I have detailed in the subject. Basically I used to
be able to select text via the cursor, click the nice large backspace key
and see the selected text disappear - as I'm sure most of you are used to
happening in many applications. Now, when I select text and click backspace
the text is not deleted, the cursor merely moves to the beginning of the
selected text. This only occures in Word and happens in every document I now
attempt to use. I know there has to be a simple fix but the M$ kb and Google
haven't yielded anything useful. I am of course aware that the delete key
performs the function I desire but long-term habits are incredibly hard to
change...

Thanks to all who reply,

Carl

Tools, Options, Edit tab, and under Editing Options make sure the "Typing
replaces Selection" box is checked.

Worked a treat, thank you! I've now idea how it became unchecked in the
first place.

You're welcome Carl.

Some things we're just not meant to know <g>. From Jerry Lippey,
after one of the many times he helped me in the NT forum: "Enjoy your
victory, Andy. Don't ask embarrassing questions".
