Selecting placeholders

I am working on a presentation that has a blue background
with cream text. When I click in a text placeholder to
add text, the box changes to white (instead of the usual
black) so I can't see the text as I am typing it. Any
advice?

Request the person who designed the template to make it work with your
version of PowerPoint. If you have PowerPoint 2002 or 2003, which they
probably do, the problem doesn't exist and they won't appreciate what you're
dealing with. Tell them that you are using a lower version and describe
what happens. The slide background, if set correctly, doesn't have to
change, but the color scheme Background field does. Either that or you
create your text in a dark color or type blindly, and neither seems like a
desirable choice.

Have you tried working in outline view? If you are unable to modify the
background, it may help. You can enter and format text, then, with the
outlining toolbar, promote or demote it to different placeholders on the
slides. It will be easier for you to edit because it will be black and
white.

If you are more comfortable doing so, you could select the text in slide
view, then switch to outline view to make changes. You'll find that this is
a very easy way to add text to presentations. Be aware that in outline
view, only text that was placed in placeholders will be visible, so if text
boxes were added you won't see them.
