Selecting a connector always disconnects it. Why?

In my diagrams I am heavily using "Connectors". They allow me to move
elements around while keeping the arrows between them properly connected.

What I find very annoying doing so, however, is - that whenever I select a
connector (e.g. in order to change some attribute like color, thickness,
etc.) - the connector also gets disconnected from its endpoints. This is
signaled by the endpoints turning green (not pinned) instead of red
(pinned). I then always need to pin the two endpoints back to the objects it
was attached to. Why does PPT do that??? I find this most annoying and IMHO
it also partially defeats the purpose of connectors!

I don't think ppt DOES do that. In 2003 and 2007 I can select the connectors
and they stay connected (red)

Maybe if you start with your version and exactly what you did?

I am using PPT 2002/XP.

I just realized that this seem to have to do with the "way" I click. It
seems to me, that my "normal" way of clicking is interpreted as a "selection
plus drag". Apparently the unavoidable hand-movement due to the mouse click
is interpreted as a mouse movement. If I keep the mouse *extremely* stable
(i.e. keep it fixed with one hand and press it onto the mousepad and then
just slightly touch the mouse button with the other hand's fingertip) the
connector is selected and stays red. If I do a "normal" click, the
connector's ends turn green. Even, if I try to hold my mouse very quiet and
do just a "click".

This is the first and only application I ever noticed this - somewhat odd...
I guess I need to make my mouse less sensitive or such.

Are you using Vista or Window 7 with an aero desktop?
Yes - Win 7.
If so disabling desktop
composition may help. Find the Powerpoint exe file, right click
compatability

Bingo! This fixed the issue!

Thanks for that hint! I would never have occurred to me, that this is a side
effect of the desktop...
