Lots of my friends often see celebrities out and about in Manchester and London, but I've seen hardly any in the last couple of years. I'm not a star-stuck type person, but its always good fun spotting someone well known :)

Anyone here spot some famous people in there local pub etc...?

I were a PSV [Private hire] driver during 1966-1969 met quite a few Norman Wisdom
laughingsmiley.gif
> Bruce Forsyth:thumb: , but the most memorable Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, I spent all day with them as a guessed at a wedding, overnight at their hotel, in the morning I had to take them to Heathrow airport I arrived opened the door for them to exit, he shook my hand and wished me luck and gave me an envelope, she kissed me on the cheek and thanked me for driving so well and for looking after them, I left onto the A48 drove to Gloucester and had a break/coffee in a café I opened the envelope [remember this was 1968] inside £100.00 the whole episode was beyond belief and will never be forgotten.:thumb:

He was given my number by a friend and told to call me, when I answered my mobile and to my astonishment on the phone was the voice of Ray Winstone asking me if i had time to come round and fix his computer up for him, as the salesguy at pcworld had been told i was an engineer and would do the business for him, as pcworld do not offer this service.

I honestly thought it was a wind up but arranged a time and place.

He came to pick me up as i had no car at the time and pulled up outside our local Blockbuster store, people just stared as i got into the car and we drove off to his house..

My god his house was massive and was furnished beyond belief, he showed me into his study and i got to work setting his pc, printer, webcam, and email up for him and generally showing him around the windows interface...

He paid me well, exceptionally well...and said he would need me again if there were any problems.

Around a week later i got a call and ended up showing him the basics of how to use photoshop for 3 hours, which again he paid me handsomely for...

I visited another 5 times after that and all were memorable visits especially when he opened his drinks cabinet....of which he didn't need much persuasion...

Oh yes he's the Daddy alright.....:D

That's a great story Itsme - a real treasure.

Me - served a salad to Elvis Costello (circa 1978) in BHS Cafe in Leeds, met Jimmy Saville on a number of occasions at various charity events when I lived in Leeds in the 70s.

The best bit ever was my hubby helped look after Nelson Mandella when he came to Leeds a few years ago and he dedicated a copy of his autobiography 'The Long Walk to Freedom' to our youngest daughter Olivia. The books sits proudly in our home and is shown to many people who take an interest. He also regularly looks after David Blunkett and John Prescott and has guarded the Queen and Prince Philip plus other royals on many occasions - overnight sometimes whilst they sleep on trains and also as they travel across the country and need escorting in and out of train stations.

Love

Gabs xx

I met that fat bird off Youve Been Framed, she was doing panto in my home town, and on the last night, she came into the pub I was bouncing in.

A few weeks ago I ran into some big NZ Actor woman (dunno her name sorry) She was the major name in NZ'ds top soap opera for several years (I never watched it) & been in a number of other TV shows & theater. Her & her family were staying in the big historical Hotel thing where thay were holding the Art Auction while they filmed a film down Aromoana (about a time back in the 80's when a guy went nuts & shot his family & a whole bunch of other people).

She wanted to know how to cook rice in a microwave so I told her & she looked familiar (I expect I'd seen her in adds or the like) so I asked if we'd met. She told me I might've seen her in these shows or the like & i felt awful having to tell her that no I hadn't, then John came along & he recognised her straight away so that was cool. She seemed nice enough, a happy sort of person & her kids were nice as well, but I'm afraid I've no idea what her name is. John would probably know but he's at work at the moment. Asides from that, just a couple of people from local TV, Dunedin is a pretty small place & until a few years ago Channel One had their main base here, but it peeted away & finally closed down about 6 years ago.

I met Barbara Hambly once. I always enjoyed her writing. She was quite quiet & withdrawn but seemed nice. Not really a chatty person or in a chatty mood so I didn't hang around.

Seems like you guys have met quite a few famous people after all!

Just got back from a comedy night (3:20AM now!) and just had a drink with Alan Carr from the Friday night project, hows that for fate! Strange indeed, just a couple of hours after I posted this

Oh fogot to say I had a drink with Richard Hillman (ex Cornoation Street) in a hotel in Leeds a couple of years back.

Love

Oh, and I had a chat with Bono, while I was visiting Howth Marina (just outside Dublin)....he used to have a boat there.
And I'v worked for Les Battersby, he has a boat in Conwy Marina, but we only spoke on the phone.....does that count?

Had lunch with Preston Lacy (Jackass) and had Jack Black (Tenacious D, School of Rock) on my flight to Chicago...

seen most of the chelsea fc players walkking around town (i live v.near to the ground) also seen ashley cole in a restaurant chris martain+g.paltrow in a restaurant and cheryll tweedy (with ashley cole) in a restaurant

Lemme see.... most recent famous person I bumped into was Boy George, about 5 years ago at Highbury Corner in London. It was about 10am and he'd just come out the corner shop clutching a newspaper, some milk and some groceries and chatting to 3 little old ladies.

I said 'Hi George, how's it going?' and he replied 'Alright mate, you?' I said fine and off I went. He was smiling a lot but looked like he'd just got up. He's tall as well, I'd say about 6' 3".

I've interviewed Anne Margaret, Keith Emerson, Marc Bolan, Pete Townsend and a lot of local politicians, some famous some not, all from when I was working on a local newspaper. And I'm sure I've forgotten a few.

Jo Whiley sometimes drinks in my local but I've never spoken to her.

And Glenn Tilbrook, he of Squeeze and now solo artist, is a local and regular acquaintance/drinking partner.

And have worked with, and spoken to: Hank Wangford; John Otway; Squeeze; Steve Marriot and some more I can't remember. Steve Marriot, he of The Small faces and Humble Pie, was a great bloke, very likeable.

And I also done a six week tour as roadie with T. Rex when 'Get It On' was in the charts. That was a lotta fun, believe me ;)

I think that's it.

itsme,

Elizabeth Taylor was the first Actor/Actress ever to be paid a million dollars for her role in Cleopatra, I bet that £100 note was part of her earnings from that ;) In those days it was a lot more difficult to spend that kind of money. :D

I have met Naomi Cambell, Edgar Davids, Harry Kewell, Isla Fisher (Ali G's Wife), Baby Spice, Ricky Butcher (Eastenders), Yalena Dokic (tennis player), Samantha Mumba, Frankie, Kylie Minogue, Beyonce Knowles!!!, Pat Cash (tennis player), Michleh Strachan, Countess Of Acham, Lord Cecil Johnson, probably one or two others

I have seen go past me:
Lennox Lewis (boy this man is just massive!!!), couple more too cant remember rite now

Dont feel special or privelaged really these people just seem normal to me!

good question u asked tho
