Seem to have lost the ability to receive mail

Hi just come home from work, check emails as usual, however get the following
error message:

The host 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk' could not be found. Please verify that you have
entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Server: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I haven't changed anything since I changed ISP to BT, then 'mac' helped me
out by suggesting changing the SMTP because then I couldn't send mail, I have
checked that and nothings changed there so hoping 'mac' will respond to this
question.

I am having the same problem, have you recently changed to windows mail on
vista? I have bought a new pc

pop.orangehome.co.uk

all is well, good of them to tell us hey!!!!

Same problem as you Joel, ok last night could not log on to incoming mail
server today................changed to "pop.orangehome.co.uk" and all sorted,
as you say, would have been nice to have been told this needed doing/was
going to happen!!!!!

Same problem. Mine just stopped receiving halfway through a batch of
messages. Thank you.
 
Well, after altering everything as suggested this did not work for me, though
there is a change. When I do my "receive mail", I no longer get any error
message, just behaves as if there is no mail to download.....I am an
ex-freeserve'r, accessing via a Bt broadband account. Can log into my
"Orange" mail account via web & can see unread mail. Hoping it will all
rectify overnight, but this problem did co-incide with another mega Vista
update, so maybe something really is broken courtesy of Bill?
 
Have you changed your incoming to pop.orangehome.co.uk?

and you outgoing should be mail.btinternet.com

I've had exactly the same problem since yesterday (same error message on my
email account), and having read your advice, re-set my acount following the
link you recommended, and it worked! I knew Orange took over Wanadoo, but
they did not let us know the old server is no longer available and that we
should change settings...

You've helped me twice in the last couple of days, you are a very
knowledgeable and helpful person, we (computer-illiterate people) really
appreciate your prompt and efficient help! It is invaluable!

Hi Joel, yeah, all changed, & today exactly the same...lots of mail on orange
server, do a receive mail in WindowsMail, get response of conected,
authorising, then not connected.........no mail, & no error message. (These
progress messages are identical to the ones I receive when receiving mail
from the BT server, O/G Test messages work fine to BT server & to Orange
server, but only receive mail from BT server.......scratching head noise!

I understand that Orange has made some repairs, and now
pop.wanadoo.co.uk is working again. Those two server names are
supposed to be aliases for each other.
 
Try switching back to pop.wanadoo.co.uk, or whatever worked before.
