I hope someone can help me with this.

I set a desktop picture several months ago. Today I set a
new one. It worked. Then I rebooted my machine. Now only
a solid color background appears. I have tried the
following and none work anymore:

Go to Control_Panel/Display/Desktop and Browse to the
picture I want and click "Apply". Nothing happens. But
interestingly, I can see the picture I have chosen in the
monitor displayed in this small window. Strange.

Go to the picture I want in My_Pictures, then right click
on it, and choose "Set as Desktop Background." Nothing
happens.

I just have a blue background now.

I'll be very grateful on any advice on how to override
whatever seems to be going on and set my desktop pictures
again.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if the following command will
work for Background Images but it works
for lots of other issues involving images.

Try this:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

I upgraded to Service Pack 1 last night - that is why I
rebooted my machine in the first place. After that reboot
is when the problem started with the desktop background.

I notice that when I reboot, the picture I have chosen
shows up briefly at the very beginning, before the
program icons show up on my desktop. Then the desktop
reverts to a solid color, and the icons appear, and the
picture is lost.

I can change the solid color, but I cannot any longer
choose a picture from any folders, including what I had
previously, to be the background.

Any further ideas?

Thanks,

Paul

If you set the pic as a desktop background using
the "Desktop Properties" and then moved the pic from
wherever you designated it from (for instance, it started
on your desktop then you moved it to My Pictures after
making it your background) Windows will keep looking for
that pic on your desktop, and, not finding it, put up the
default background. Move the pic into your windows
folder, then designate it from there. You mught not even
have to browse for it either, it will be listed with
the "coffeebeans" and "zapotec"
