I have a spec to build a syslof server for a client's unix
systems/network probably hosted on a net or open BSD box. Obviously
unix O/s' offer a syslog server solution "out of the box" so to speak,
but I'm wondering if anyone can point me to freeware/shareware syslog
servers (presumably source to be compiled) that offer more than the
standard "suck it all in and log it" approach of the standard unix
server.

any and all help appreciated.

cheers

There's a replacement syslogd somewhere, probably on freshmeat or
sourceforge. It gets mentioned on occasion in the various comp.unix groups.

Try searching for "syslogd replacement" google spits out ~10000 matches.
