seeking help with USB laptop hard drive adapter case

I bought a USB case that allows me to take a laptop hard drive and make it
external. Although this USB external drive can be seen in CMM, I have no
options to partition or format the drive. What am I doing wrong?
 
I had the same problem too. It was caused by a defective
chip in the USB case. Replacing the case fixed the problem.
