My computer was shut down because of power cut-off. And
the Windows XP can't operate through various options on
the computer screen, ranging from the safety mode to
others. How can I get the system back to work so as to re-
strat the Windows XP operation? Your timely advice is
warmly appreciated. THanks.

Sounds like you need to do a "repair" re-install of XP
Boot up yr PC, hitting the DEL key to bring up the BIOS
Change the BIOS boot sequence to boot from CD drive
Insert the Windows XP installation disk, follow instructions
on-screen choosing the "REPAIR" option

I'm only a novice - this week-end is Eater and it's possible
the experts normally manning this newsgroup are on holiday.
I believe the info is good, as it's taken from reading similar
problem answers in this newsgroup - you may wish to read
the many earlier postings to verify

Hope this helps ! Len.

I've tried to change the boot order so as to force the
notebook to boot from the CD-ROM. But this attempt failed,
despite the CD-ROM has power as its tray can be easily
open. That is to say, there's no way I can go ahead with
the repair process...
The computer was initially shut down abruptly as I was in
the middle of MSN messenger.
What else should I do?
