We're considering setting up a web-based talk show and are looking for a
program that will help set that up and broadcast the shows. I'm running
Apache with PHP, PERL, ASP(?), MySQL on WinXP HOME.

For what it's worth,...
http://www.live365.com
offers the possibility to broadcast a station.

I like their style, even the free version. The promo is not all to
pushy.
nondisputandum

Have you considered setting up a SHOUTcast Server for Winamp?

"In order to broadcast audio using Winamp, you'll need to have a SHOUTcast
server for Winamp to connect to. The purpose of the SHOUTcast server is that
it allows people using Winamp connect to it and begin downloading content
being streamed live off the Internet, and the content is live, and up to the
minute. This server software allows many people to connect, assuming you
have enough bandwidth, memory, and CPU. Your broadcasters use Winamp and the
SHOUTcast Source Plug-in for Winamp to send data to your server, and the
server then relays the data back to your listeners. The person running the
SHOUTcast server has the ability to administer the server itself via HTML
and a simple configuration file. To obtain the latest copy of the SHOUTcast
Server, please click the image to the left.

Note: SHOUTcast Server is available for the following platforms: Windows
95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Linux, and Solaris."

Thanks...I'll have a look, but I'm not sure that's what we're looking for.
Right off that sounds like trying to use a bulldozer to plant a shrub. We
just plan a few short talk shows and would like to make them available on
demand rather than schedule them to run for so many hours at a time.

I'm thinking that saving them to some type of MID or MP3 file or some such
and supplying a link from a menu is more likely the way we should go rather
than look for a broadcast program.

That sounds like a better idea. If it's a talk show you
could probably convert to MP3 using a much lower bitrate for
smaller downloads.

We haven't decided but we'll probably figure on 15 min - 30 min per show so
we're not going to need anything extravagant. I figured we'd be able to
find something to run off the Apache.

Is the show going to be of any relation to the topic of this
newsgroup? (Just in case I might want to keep an eye out for
any announcements.)

Do you think there would be enough interest in a talk show about freeware?
Our initial shows are going to be focused on paranormal and supernatural
topics as well as things such as herbology, crystallography, angelology, Rei
Ki, etc.

I never considered it. Depends on how well you could promote
it, I suppose.

Much bigger audience there, I would guess. Still depends on
how well you could promote it, though.
Good luck!
