My boss bought two new computers, both with Vista, and I set one up just
fine, but the other only sees the network, but no access to the internet..
any ideas what could be wrong?

If www.google.com doesn;t work,but http://64.233.161.104 does, you have a
DNS issue.

Is there a router or computer acting as a DHCP server?

There is a 16 port switcher we use, 7 computers are connected to it. My boss
bought two more computers, making it 7 now, both with Vista, I was able to
connect one to the LAN and to the internet, but the other, i'm only able to
connect to the LAN. I've given it a set IP addreess , Gateway, and DNS number
just like the first Vista, but a no go so far, as to connecting to the
internet. You'd think vista would be easier :(

Make sure you haven't duplicated IP addresses on machines. Each machine
needs to have a unique address.

define "sees the network" are you looking at the diagnose thing, from
network properties? If thats the case, i would bet you arent getting a
proper IP address, but are instead getting the 169.254.x.x network address.

do an IPCONFIG to see what your IP is.

Thank you guys, I've finally resolved the issue. It was as 'Synapse Syndrome'
suggest, a DNS issue. Changed that last digit from 2 to 4 and it works :)

Thanks again you guys for your suggestions :)
