I need to create Powerpoint presentations that can be locked so that users
cannot modify them. I have successfully done this, however initial tests
done last year (as I remember) showed that a locked Powerpoint file could be
opened and modified on a previous version of Powerpoint. Since we only have
Office XP 2002 in our offices, I am unable to test this. Can someone confirm
this? If this is true, it's not much of a security feature.

Thanks

In PowerPoint 2002 you can assign a "Modify" password and users of
PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 will be able to open the file and view it. They
will not be able to edit the file unless they have the password. However,
users of PowerPoint 97 and 2000 will not be able to even open the file in
PowerPoint. They will have to use the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer to view it.
The PowerPoint 2003 Viewer is a free download at
