i have uninstalled norton at last but now have avg free
plus microsoft firewall, the thing is, is this enough to
cover my computer against everything,i'm only a moderate user help!

You can download a whole slew of antispyware stuff like Arthur
suggested, or you can get Microsoft AntiSpyware...it does a very nice
job. Just Google for it.

Plus consider switching from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox.

No. You need three kinds of protection:

1. A firewall. You're running the WIndows firewall, which is OK, but since
it monitors incoming traffic only, it's not as good as almost any
third-party firewall which monitoirs traffic in both directions. I use and
like the free version of ZoneAlarm

2. An anti-virus program. AVG is a decent choice.

3, Anti-spyware software. Because no single product catches everything, you
need several to protect you. I recommend the following, all free:

Spyware Blaster
Adaware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta.

Did you forget The other component?
Windows Updates.
Of course a healthy dose of common since as the fifth goes a long way as
well, but it is harder to measure.

And in addition to the items mentioned by Mike Hall, Ken Blake, and
Jupiter Jones you need to get the occasional "second opinion" because
no antivirus or antispyware product is perfect and things occasionally
get past even the best of them.

So about once a month, and more often if you think your computer is
not performing quite as it should you need to do a free online scan
from one of the following sites:
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan
Webroot http://www.webroot.com/

Good luck

The three components I mentioned were software protection you install and
run. Windows updates are really another kind of thing entirely, but I
certainly agree on its importance. So thanks for adding it.

Same there.

It's also almost impossible to find as freeware. ;)

And then when I thought it was all covered, Ron comes in and adds something
else important.
Sometime it seems it will never end...

You may be looking for software.
It is hardware.
I have some for anyone that has a need at only $325 a lb US.
At least 3 lbs is needed per person.

Do not worry if it appears to be normal rocks when you get it, that is the
normal appearance.
