Emma Hope

I've made a major mistake, i set my database up using the
security level wizard with one user name, myself Emma
Hope.

I have accidently removed myself from the Admins group
and now i can't put myself back in.

The only other user on the User & Group Accounts is the
default Admin which i haven't changed in anyway, i have
tried to log in with this name using 'Admin', 'admin'
and 'Admins', each time i get a message 'Not a valid user
name or password', does this have some sort of default
password i can try.

Please, please, can someone help me to sort this out,
otherwise i have wasted three weeks of really hard work.

Thank you
Emma

You don't mention the version, but recent versions of the wizard ask you if
you'd like to backup your unsecure mdb before it goes too far. If you
answered yes to this, you'll find your unsecure mdb in the same folder. It
will have a bak extension.

Joan,

I'm using Access 2000 on Win XP.

I found this but i made this initial backup only a week
into my project so it is incomplete and therefore useless.

Also i've just figured out i've somehow put this
workgroup on all my databases so all my new databases are
coming out with the same problem. Is there someway i can
just delete this stupid workgroup thing?

Thanks
Emma

Emma,

Thanks for the additional information.

Since the wizard in 2000 doesn't do a complete job, try this.

Find all the *.mdw files on your computer.

Start, Run, wrkgadm.exe
This will open the workgroup administrator, and show you the workgroup you
are currently joined to by default. Try joining the default mdw that ships
with Access. It is named system.mdw and is usually located in the windows
system folder.

If you have only one mdw on the computer, then try and copy system.mdw from
another computer.
