Hi,

Is there a simple way to encrypt all communication between a SQL Server 2000
and a .net application?
What is the best practice in this case?

Simplest would be to set up SSL on the server and connect using it.

Hi,

My SSL knowledge is worth talking about.
Do I need to buy a certificate for that? The connection is always going to
be on a LAN if that matters, it still needs to be secure though because it's
a big LAN.

Take a look at this

It shows you how to turn on encrption for odbc and oleb, for SqlClient you
need to add "Encrypt=true" to the connection string.
