I'm not talking about buttons, but the menu bar on the top of the Contact.
Actions is after Tools and before Help. Then follow the other links.
:
I remember using Go to ACTIONS/LINK/FILE on the Contact in outlook 2003 but
for the life of me I have no idea when these buttons are in Outlook 2007
within a Contact itself.
:
I believe that you are looking in the wrong place. Open a contact that you
want to link a file to, then follow the instructions below. The process
needs to take place within the open contact, not a contact tab somewhere else.
:
I don't seem to have that in my ACTIONS anymore under the CONTACTS tab.
I remember this being there in Outlook 2003 but for some reason I don't have
any option to link a file to a contact
:
Go to ACTIONS/LINK/FILE on the Contact. Then specify the file you would like
to link. If you want the Journal entry to open the linked file directly
instead of opening the Journal Entry first and double clicking on the linked
file, then Right Click on the Journal Entry in the Activities Tab and go to
"Open Item Referred To". Or to have the linked item open automatically every
time, then go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/JOURNAL OPTIONS and then click on "Opens the
item referred to in the Journal Entry"
:
Chunnel - I am in the same situation as you, would prefer to eliminate this
message as I have a lot of attached word, excel documents and find the
message more of a nuissance.
For regular contacts (non-bcm) how do you attached files (word, excel) to a
contacts via journal so they are viewable in actitivies. If I attach a file
to a regular contact they appear in the notes section which I do not like.
:
Again I appreciate your quick response. My confusion lies in the fact that I
have many documents attached to Contacts in my regular Outlook file. Yet I
have never, ever, had this warning appear when double clicking on the Journal
entry to open the linked file. Why only with Business Contact Manager?
Bryan
:
Unfortunately, this warning will appear regardless of data is shared or
private. Since BCM is in Outlook, we follow the same guidelines as Outlook
attachment. If you try to open an Outlook attachment, you get similar
warning.
Moreover, there could be security issues with attachment even if you are the
only users. For example, if you import BCM contacts provided by someone, and
the imported data has a link to file that points to some location on
internet, opening that link could take you to some bad site etc. Since
attachment security is pretty important, BCM doesn't apply any logic to
figure out whether it should throw warning or not.
I agree this is not the best design from usability perspective, but it makes
sense from security perspective.

I appreciate the information that you've given me. However, I am the only
one accessing this computer and I'm not on a network. There must be a way
to
disable this.
:
This is by design behavior. Since BCM database can be shared and other
users
can also attach files to the contacts/accounts, this warning is thrown
for
security purpose.

After I attach a .doc to a contact within BCM and try to open it I get
the
following Security Warning.
Only open attachments from a trustworthy source.
Attachment: C:\Documents and Settings\Bryan\My Documents\...
Do you want to open this file?
How do I disable this warning? I have many files attached to Contacts
in
Outlook, why do I get this warning only with BCM?
