Hi.

For the past week, I have been getting "Security Warnings" in IE when I
visit select websites. These are websites I visit frequently and trust (in a
very relative sense) their content. However, I am a victim of a "drive-by"
hacker and to be honest, I believe in my effort to defend, I may have
over-tweaked the computer security. FYI - The hacking mess occurred in March
so this is not something related to that, per se. I think it is related to my
defense against it happening again?

These are 2 examples of the hassle I am speaking of:

1. download.com

Security Warning pop-up
The current Webpage is trying to open a site on the Internet. Do you want to
allow this?
Current site: view.atdmt.com
Internet site: C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll
If I click 'no': Displayed under an advertisement section is "Action
Cancelled" screen.
If 'yes": Displayed under an advertisement section is "Page Cannot Be
Displayed.

2. pcmag.com

Security Warning pop-up
The current Webpage is trying to open a site on the Internet. Do you want to
allow this?
Current site: ad.doubleclick.net
Internet site: C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll
If I click 'no': Displayed under an advertisement section is "Action Can
celled" screen.
If 'yes": Displayed under an advertisement section is "Page Cannot Be
Displayed.
** With this site, I have to 'yes' or 'no' my way out of 6-7 pop-ups.

I would like to be able to utilize these sites at a functioning level, which
was the case until recently. I am unsure of what to do and guess I am
"spooked" into doing nothing, until I understand why this is so.
Any assistance would be appreciated, greatly.

Hi,
See the "Recommended Minimal Security Settings" at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm The recommended "Custom" settings
will improve security and should resolve the security prompt you're seeing.
Or, you could go back to "Default" settings.

Hope this helps,
Don

Thank you Don. I will reference this information and try to determine what is
going on. I do appreciate your willingness to help. If needed, I will
respond.

I have exactly the same problem and the IE6 security level is set at the
default (medium) and has not changed. Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and MS
AntiSpyware are all uptodate and run regularly.

Any suggestion as to the 'fix'.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
