Security updates causing internet connection problem?

I recently applied the latest security updates via automatic update to my Win
2000 Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop. Now I cannot connect to the internet. I
installed Firefox 1.5 but have the same problem. Strangely, internet e-mail
using Microsoft Outlook still works fine. The laptop is a few years old, but
I have had very few problems. I can ping the router (wireless connection) but
no external urls.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? I don't see anything
obviously wrong with the network settings on my machine, or the router
settings.

You are in the wrong group I fear if you think updates have caused your
problem. You need to ask in the windowsupdate group in that web interface
you are using.
Do you get any error messages - event viewer errors - have you checked with
your IP/ISP - which update caused the problem.
Good luck

I had the same problem. I had to do a system restore using a checkpoint from
a previous week. But, I had to automatic updates on so my computer downloaded
the updates again and the problem returned. So I restored my computer again
and turned off the automatic updates. It isn't the best solution but it works
for the timebeing
