Howdy,

I installed 5 security updates on the 04/13/2004 on a leased Windows 2000
Server
with Sql Server 2000 SP3 & pcAnywhere installed as they were strongly
recommended by Microsoft.

Shortly afterwards I was unable to access the server via pcAnywhere however
SQL Server
responded as normal. Over the next two weeks I could not gain access to the
server so I requested that
my provider restart the machine after they could not gain access to it
either.

After the restart, SQL Server nor pcAnywhere would respond so I rang a tech
on their support
phone number who informed me that the problem was due to this issue -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=841382

My providers tech guys now tell me that;

"Initial boot attempt to safe mode unsuccessful; error at initial blue
screen displaying corrupt boot file system, demanding a chkdsk be performed.
Direct access to primary (actually the only found partition), which appears
to be the boot partition, all file names are gibberish and illegible."

and

"Attempted to repair system through the Windows Manual Repair procedure,
which would permit backing out of the process, should it be necessary
yielded the following error:
Setup has determined that Drive C: is corrupted and cannot be repaired.
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup press F3."

"CHKDSK is currently running and is at 72% of phase 1."

Anyone have any similar experiences or advice to give?
I'd really like to hear from an MVP.

Thanks,

Padraic.

Thanks Jerry for your reply

Unfortunately the hotfix won't do any good as the c: drive was completely trashed resultin
in substantial loss of data.
