Security Update

Help!...after running the update for the latest security updates, my XP has been out of control....Now it locks up when changing users, going into standby mode or logging off a user. It is also randomly trying to install features from Microsoft Office 2000 which is just absolutely nuts. In the course of an hour, it tries to do this 20-30 times and then will stop for like 2 hours. I have tried reinstalling XP to no avail.....anybody who has a clue and can offer an opinion would be greatly appreciated.
