Security update for DirectX9 just sits and doesn't install

I downloaded the slew of new updates to Win2000 and all install OK
except that for DirectX9 which just sits with the hard disc ticking
away - I can leave it overnight and it gets no further. Have tried
several times now. Is there a solution to this apart from not
installing it?
There used to be a way of contacting Microsoft for Windows Update
problems but I can't find this any more - does it exist or has it gone
the way of all Microsoft "Support"?

There seems to be a problem with this new batch of updates. I had
problems myself.
