This particular update wants to re-install itself every time I restart my PC,
since I first installed it in December. This week, I've tried other means of
installing it (the download version, uninstall it first, shutting down the
Firewall, AntiVirus, etc.) ... with NO success (sigh).

Windows Update shows it as Installed Successfully, but insists on
RE-installing it! QFECheck shows it as installed. Add/Remove Programs shows
it as installed, and it's in the Registry.

Why does Windows Update think it is NOT installed?! I've looked at all the
logs and there are NO errors indicating a failure to complete the install,
either via Windows Update or via manual install (the downloaded version).
Even after boot, install, reboot.

My system is a Dell Dimension 8250 (Intel 3.06 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM) running
Windows XP Pro SP2 -- fully patched (ALL Windows Update patches) up to this
point -- with a 120 GB hard drive (41% free, scandisk run, defragged daily
via Diskeeper 10).

Thank you, to anyone who can get Windows Update to realize that this update
is already installed on my system.

Yes, IE is the latest upgraded and patched version via WinUpdate
(6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) and uses 128-bit Cipher Strength.
The Help/About also says "Update Versions:; SP2;"

Thank you for the links Jon. There was one I had not seen. Between it and
some other steps I took, the update seems to have finally "stuck" (smile).
We'll see tomorrow!

Thanks again.
