Hello,

How can someone recover from the security template or remove the effect? I
am working with someone that applied the security templates and would like
to go back to the default setting. What is the process or steps to do that?

Thanks,

TMS

Thank you for your assistance...I do have a question regarding your posts.
The article and tool you posted is basically taking the settings of another
template
which has all the default settings and applies them. What would happen in
situations where the security template that was applied has a specific
setting set to enable but the default template has something like not
defined? Most likely it will not be set to the default setting. To my
understanding, this is how security templates works?

I would appreciate your comments on this.

Thank you,
TMS

If the template does not define a setting, it will not affect the behavior.

That is what I was alluding to. You can use secedit to reset security to defined
default settings which may be 100 percent adequate. There are however some security
options that by default that are "not defined" that would not be reset to default
state of not defined if they had been enabled or disabled since the installation.
When a security template is applied, only defined settings will alter current
security policy. --- Steve

Thank you very much for confirming the possible behavior....So basically the
only guarantee that the setting will be set to the default after a security
template is applied is restoring the registry from backup. This is why I
usually tell administrators to take a backup of their system state before
applying any security templates.

Thank you again,
TMS
