Security setup problems on LAN

I have designed this nice database in MS Access 2000, and
now want to put the cherry on the top...WHAT A CHERRY!
Before you pass judgement keep in mind that I am a self
driven learner and somewhat of a novice. My idea are as
follow: copy this database on the network server and share
it. Now the designated people should be able to access the
database and should get prompted for a username and
password (for obvious reasons). I tried to setup a user
account with the applicable permissions and the admin is
me. Simple? Not so... the result was not what I intended
or expected. When I accessed the database from another pc -
NO SECURITY! I went straight into the database without a
problem or a prompt? To worsen this the pc where I did the
setup from kept the security settings and applied it to
all other databases. Where did I go wrong or is MS Access
intended for the use of one person. I should add that
everyone have their own copy of ms access. I tried the
same thing on my pc and placed the database in a shared
folder. NOW it complains that another user who tries to
access it hasn't got permission to open the database, that
it is under construction and some little remark about it
might be opened exclusively. I hope that I didn't spend
all this time for nothing, Please Help!

ns! Is there a way to have security settings apply only to
one single database because I have some other in the
pipeline for different uses?
