I have one computer connected to broadband, and three that are not,
including one that is normally not on line at all. I would like to be able
to periodically download Wondows updates on my broadband-connected computer
and be able to apply that set of updates to all the other machines without
having to connect each separately to a slow dialup connection.

I realize that Microsoft Update queries a computer to see which updates are
appropriate, so the overall download would have to be comprehensive in that
way. I also understand that for a period of time, Microsoft made available
something called a "Security Rollup", but that no longer seems to be
available.
Is ther a way to do download the accumulated updates in a flatfile form to
apply to my other machines?

Magnusfarce,

I believe security rollups were issued once a number of critical security
issues had been patched & it was deemed more efficient to issue a single
patch rather than several. Not sure what Microsoft's criteria were to issue
these rollups though.

If you want a set of patches to issue to a group of machines without
continually downloading, you can download once from:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

burn them to CD, then issue them to each computer. If you want to 'chain'
patches so that only one reboot is required, make sure you use the reskit
utility qchain.exe to ensure the latest file versions are used. See:
