My client asked:
- what ports does the Access application use?
- are passwords passed encrypted?
- what authentication does the application use?

Scenario:
User has a front-end database on C: drive
Back-end on server share
Mdw file in use for security

Any help appreciated!

My client asked:
- what ports does the Access application use?

It doesn't use ports AFAIK. It uses a normal network connection. Your
client is confusing Access (and the underlying database manager, MS
Jet) with a client/server database. It is a simple network-based file
server database.

- are passwords passed encrypted?

Yes. But MS made a mistake how they did it. Consequently, the passwords
can be de-encrypted, from the workgroup information files, using
publically-available software.
- what authentication does the application use?

None, database password, or username/password. But if you're thinking
Kerberos etc. - forget it, it is not that type of product.

TC
