I have a Windows 2000 server at work that has been locked down by our
network security policy!

The server displays critical messages to the screen to allert the user and
needs to be seen at all times. The network policy locks the server after a
period of about 5 minutes and requires you to log back in. This hides the
desktop and my messages!

Is there a way to disable the server being locked after this period without
changing the network security policy? Possible patch or code i can run to
disable the lock workstation feature?

Any help appreciated.

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem here at my place or work.
The system needs to be seen all day long but the pc goes
to 'screen lock' mode requiring you to re-login.

Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to disable this
feature WITHOUT having to be logged into the system as an
adminstrator?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks very much..

Steven is correct as usual; the screensaver is called winexit.scr and is
included in the Windows 2000 Reskit. I have tested it and it works on
Windows 2000, XP, and 2003. (If you switch to the directory where you place
the .scr file in a command prompt and type "winexit.scr" it will bring up a
mini-setup utility that you can customize how long it will countdown before
logging you off, and the message that is displayed to users.

Oh yea,
Although this is usually caused by the screensaver kicking in, there is a
possiblity that the machine is going into standby mode, the default in
Windows 2000/XP is that when we come back out of Standby to lock the
workstation; in Windows XP you can change this as an Administrative Template
setting in Group Policy.
