When I initially turn on my computer I have a warning and am told to click a
balloon icon at the bottom of page that flashes a danger warning and told to
click on an icon for more info. I click the icon and 3 main security issues
appear 1. firewall: ON 2. something else is ON and 3.says I do not have an
antivirus protection. I just bought a product called "winantivirus" a week
ago for $50.00. It appears like I am notified about virus activity when it is
detected. Why does my computer not recognize the antivirus program I just
recently bought? Is it really there or have I not actually installed it and
just paid for it? I am really confused. When a box pops up informing me a
virus has been detected, I chose the quarrentine option first... I then get
another message saying cannot quarrentine or method I chose is unsuccessful
providing me with 3 options to choose from a)ignore b) delete entire file c)
remove later? I always choose the option to delete the file and then my
computer shuts down and restarts. After I select delete the file, I never
receive any info. that this virus file has been deleted as I requested? What
is really going on? Do I not have something set appropriatly so the antivirus
I purchased is not being noticed or what? I am extremely computer ignorant. I
have done what microsoft security reccommends to see if I have any antivirus
protection by clicking start, programs and looking for anything that states
antivirus and I see the "winantivirus" icon. Is that all I need to see to
know it exist? If so why do I get this initial warning that I do not have a
protection of an antivirus. Any advice is tremendously appreciated. Thx

(snip post that doesn't belong here)

Tracey, you've posted this in response to a totally unrelated question.

WinAntivirus is a scam.

I'll look for your new post and be glad to help you there.

Ask the manufacturer of your antivirus application why *they* have not
made it compatible with WinXP SP2's Security Console. The Security
Console won't "know" that an antivirus application is installed unless
that antivirus application conforms to certain interfacing standards.

You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having

Security Center only recognizes the Big Boys (McAfee, Norton).

From Windows Help:
To use antivirus software that Windows doesn't find
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other
security threats. Windows checks to make sure that an antivirus program is
installed on your computer, that it's running, and that it's up to date.
However, Windows does not detect all antivirus programs, and some antivirus
programs don't report their status to Windows.

If you receive an alert about your virus protection software or the status
in the Security Center indicates that the antivirus program on your computer
needs attention, but you know that it is installed and up to date, you can
use the procedure below to stop receiving the security alerts. You should
only do this if you are sure that you have a full, up-to-date antivirus
program installed on your computer and that real-time scanning, which checks
every file before it is opened or used, is turned on.

To specify that you are using an antivirus program that Windows does not find:

To open the Security Center, click Start, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Security Center.
In the Security Center, under Virus Protection, click Recommendations.
In the Recommendations dialog box, select the I have antivirus software that
I'll monitor myself check box, and then click OK.
Notes

The Recommendations button is not available when your Virus Protection
setting is marked ON.
When you use this procedure, the Security Center displays your Virus
Protection setting as Unknown, and does not send you alerts.
If your computer is part of a domain (a group of computers on a network),
your security settings are typically managed by your network administrator.
In this case, the Security Center does not display your security status or
send alerts.
