security message help please

can anyone help me out, i recently updated to internet explorer 7 from
version 6 as prompted via windows update. After I updated and booted my
computer i started to get a error message on screen saying "The security
information is invalid or has been modified this programe will be terminated"
I have then two option to select ok or cancell I select cancell the message
disapeares, I can then work on my computer ok, but the message returns when i
next boot only to go threw the same thing again and again. Can anyone please
help me to stop the message from appearing again, if so can you please tell
me step by step as my it skills are not good when regarding computers.

Is that the exact message?

It sounds like - but I could be off - you have spyware/adware/malware.
When was the last time you scanned for/cleaned up such things?

*note*
You won't do this very well with any single program and most antivirus
applications will not cover/recover from such things. You have to use
antispyware applications.
 
thanks for the advice, i currently run NAV, AD-Aware, REG checks every week.
nothing malicious has ever shown up on my computer. it has always been fine
up to the time i accepted the updates from Microsoft.
