About one year ago, I found a great link on a microsoft webpage to third
party antivirus / registry checker software, but can't locate it now. It must
have been in the security section.

Anybody have any ideas where it is / was?

Put the cursor over each manufacturer or visit their site to see what is
offered in conjunction with MS.
EX: CA AV 2007 offers a 90 days free trial

AVOID registry 'checkers' UNLESS you already know how to manually edit
the registry. IMHO, they cause more issues then they're worth.

A fine FREE antivirus program is offered by ... AOL. It's actually
Kaspersky AV v.6, which is a HIGHLY rated program:

From a Google search on 'activevirusshield' -
System requirements to install Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2006

Try it. As long as AOL is giving it away for free you might as well take
them up on it <w>
